Loon Reveals Plans for South Peak Terrain Expansion

South Peak Western Expansion

10 March 2025 — It’s been five years since Loon Mountain announced its ambitious Flight Path 2030 plan. On March 7th, Loon provided a community update at Jean’s Playhouse in Lincoln, sharing exciting progress and significant new announcements for South Peak homeowners.

Loon’s Largest Terrain Expansion

Loon’s President and General Manager, Brian Norton, revealed plans for a western expansion of South Peak, introducing trails and lifts on an entirely new peak. This expansion will add approximately 295 acres of new terrain, featuring a diverse mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails.

Loon Mountain’s growth has deep roots. In 1966, New Hampshire Governor and Loon founder Sherman Adams identified Lincoln’s Loon Mountain as an ideal recreational destination to help revitalize the region’s economy, which was declining due to the downturn of the logging industry. Today’s development, including the expansion of South Peak Resort and beyond to Rt 93, follows Adams’ vision and a master development plan initially approved by the U.S. Forest Service in 1993 and revised in 2007.

According to Norton, the development by South Peak’s current owner has provided Loon with the ability to move forward with the western expansion. “If you’ve driven through South Peak recently, you’ll see that South Peak’s new ownership is actively developing the area and engaged in developing the ski resort with us.”

Plans for the South Peak and beyond expansion include:

  • A diverse mix of terrain, ranging from beginner slopes to expert terrain
139 acres of glades, with both tight tree runs and wide-open options
  • 61 acres of night skiing
  • Five new aerial lifts
  • A ski village
  • A Reimagined Pemi Base Camp

Further improving the ski experience from South Peak, Loon announced the replacement of the Pemi Base tent with an all-new permanent base lodge to be ready next year.

Adjacent to this new Pemi Base lodge, South Peak has begun construction on The Nest, a semi-private owners club that includes private lockers, a golf simulator, events, and a public restaurant.

South Peak Village
Planning is also underway for an exciting ski-in/ski-out village at South Peak featuring:

  • Hotels, condos, and single-family homes
  • Retail shops, restaurants, and bars
  • Adventure activities, including tubing, ice skating,
  • A Pulse Gondola transporting visitors from South Peak over the Pemi River to Riverwalk Resort, the shops at Mills Marketplace, and Lincoln’s Main Street.

South Peak’s developer Mark Bogosian expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

This expansion marks the most extensive terrain expansion in Loon’s history and further solidifies Lincoln as the premier four-season destination, offering year-round recreational opportunities just two hours from Boston.
