80’s Day at South Peak: Fresh Powder and Retro Vibes

April 2025
80's Day Black Light Party at South Peak

An annual weekend of retro ski style, fresh powder, live music, and unforgettable apres energy

Every spring, Loon Mountain goes full throttle into retro mode for one of the most anticipated events of the season—80’s Day. Traditionally held on the last weekend of March, this annual celebration brings out the best of New England’s ski culture, complete with bright colors, throwback music, and an unmatched mountain party atmosphere. For years, the festivities have centered around a massive outdoor concert at the Governor’s Lodge, with everyone encouraged to show up in their best 80’s gear.

In 2024, South Peak decided to join the fun—and the vibe has only gotten bigger since. That first year, South Peak Basecamp hosted its debut 80’s-themed black light party on Friday night, and it was such a hit that it sparked a new tradition. Now, 80’s Day at South Peak is a full-weekend experience, and in 2025, the Basecamp crew took it up a notch with even more events, more music, and a town-wide celebration to match.

A Throwback 80’s Weekend

Black light party at South Peak

The party kicked off Friday night with an exciting new double feature: a lively line dancing session at Basecamp, followed by the now-iconic black light party. The energy was off the charts as guests two-stepped under neon lights with themed cocktails adding to the flair. As the night continued, DJs lit up the scene, and the dance floor kept pumping well into the night—setting the tone for a truly unforgettable weekend.

Saturday delivered the main event—and a powder day to remember. An overnight storm dropped 8” of fresh snow, which kept falling into the early morning, creating soft turns and stoke-worthy conditions. With fewer crowds than the main mountain and convenient lift access via the Timbertown Quad just steps from the parking lot, South Peak offered the perfect place to ski before the afternoon festivities kicked off.

But Saturday wasn’t just about skiing—it was a full-blown fashion showdown. Guests showed up in bold neon colors, retro jackets, and vintage ski suits that turned the mountain into a moving runway of 80’s style. From the lift lines to the trails, the vibe was pure throwback fun.

To keep the après experience high energy, musical guests played all throughout the day. Starting with a live set from The Stray Dog, they brought high-energy covers and original tunes to the South Peak stage. As the sun began to dip, DJ Re:union took over with a killer mix of dance tracks that had everyone moving, followed by Jester Jigs, who closed out the night with a set that kept the dance party alive well into the evening.

The Fun Continues

And the party didn’t stop on the slopes. South Peak made sure the retro vibes spilled into town with local businesses joining in the fun. Bluebird Martini Bar, Snow Fish Sushi, and Alpine Pizza served up 80’s-themed cocktails and decked out their spaces with themed decor. Meanwhile, The Shop at South Peak had guests covered in style, selling RacySuits and other vintage gear to keep everyone looking the part.

From mountain to town, 80’s Day at South Peak has quickly grown into a full-weekend tradition that’s impossible to miss. What started as a one-night party in 2024 is now a two-day, mountain-wide celebration of skiing, music, neon, and nonstop fun. And with each passing year, the team at South Peak is planning to turn it up even more—with new events, bigger performances, and even bolder retro vibes on the horizon.

So, mark your calendars—because next spring, it’s only going to get better. See you in your brightest ski suit at 80’s Day 2026!
